Braehead Coaches Upskill Session

We have had several requests from Braehead Coaches to deliver a Coaches Upskill Session to share current techniques recognised by Scottish Curling and techniques we would wish coaches to deliver locally at Braehead.

The Upskill Session will be held at Braehead on Sunday 3rd November 2019 from 11am, finish 2.30pm.

The Session will include Upskill in the following areas:

  • Technical Delivery
  • Sweeping
  • Session planning
  • Tactics
  • Team Skills
  • AOCB

The Braehead Virtual Curling Club had a coached session on Sunday 13th October 2019.

The Coached Session was the first of six sessions to be delivered throughout the season. Today the session focussed on Set-up and Line of Delivery.

Thank you to Sharon Taylor Kerr and Alan Hannah for delivering the session to 15 BVCC Members.

GYCC Launch Night

Glasgow Young Curlers Club was re-launched on Friday 27th September 2019 at Braehead Curling Rink.

There was nearly 50 attendees at the launch including some former members of the original GYCC.

A special thank you to former members Robin Copland, Ken Horton, Leslie Ingram-Brown, Robin Shand and Alistair Govan for joining the celebrations which included some fun games with the juniors, cutting of the cake and the telling of some great tales of the former club.

Cawder House Curling Club win the Opening Bonspiel 2019.

Eight teams, representing clubs from Cathcart Castle, Cawder House, Dumbarton, Glasgow Ladies, Glasgow Young Curlers (x2), Helensburgh and Bearsden competed in a friendly bonspiel, officially opening the new curling season at Braehead.

A fun evening was had by all of the teams with Andrew Jolly, Glenn Nash, Helen Jamieson and Helen Anderson of Cawder House being crowned the winners!

Thanks to Intu Braehead for laying on some food.

3rd Glasgow Ladies +4

 

Congratulations to Judy Mackenzie (appearing in the honours list as Elizabeth Mackenzie) who has been awarded the MBE for services to wheelchair curling.
